Internet freedom monitoring platform Netblocks, in a post on its official X (Twitter) account, announced that access to many virtual media platforms in Turkey has been restricted following the detention operation against Ekrem İmamoğlu, the CHP Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor.

Netblocks' post reads: "Live metrics show Turkey has restricted access to multiple social media platforms including X, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok; the incident comes as Istanbul mayor Ekrem Imamoglu and dozens of others are detained in events described by the opposition as a 'coup'.
As part of the investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, more than 100 people, including politicians, artists and journalists, have been detained.
