AMED - Newroz fire was lit with the slogan "Bijî Serok Apo" in Farqîn and Xana Axpar districts of Amed. Despite the rainy weather in the city, people celebrated Newroz with great enthusiasm.
One of the important centres of Newroz celebrations in Amed (Diyarbakır) is Farqin (Silvan) district. Newroz, which witnesses great enthusiasm every year, was celebrated in front of Azizoğlu Mansion. Hundreds of people from 7 to 70 participated in the Newroz celebration and the masses stood in a halaya with the music played. The celebration started with a minute of silence, followed by greetings and speeches.
Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Provincial Co-chair Mehmet Şirin Gürbüz reminded the Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's "Call for Peace and Democratic Society" on 27 February and said that the freedom of the Kurdish people is near.
Amed MP Adalet Kaya said, "This Newroz is the Newroz of freedom of the Leader. Mr Öcalan's call is a call for truth, for the freedom of the peoples. This process will bring freedom to all peoples. We are close to living free and together. We have this belief, this hope in our hearts."
After the speeches, the Newroz fire was lit by the Peace Mothers and elected officials. After the fire was lit, the masses chanted "Bijî Serok Apo (Long live Leader Apo)" slogan in unison. Newroz ended with the performance of artist Seyidxan Sevinç and dances.
XANA AXPAR
The celebration in Xana Axpar (Çınar) district of Amed was held in Nujiyan Park. Local costumes transformed the Newroz area into a riot of colours. Gülşen Özer, Amed Provincial Co-Chair of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party, said that they started their Newroz activities on 27 February with the greetings of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan. Gülşen Özer emphasised that they will continue their struggle.
After the speeches, the Newroz fire was lit with the crowd. Despite the rain that was effective in the city, the people did not leave the area and continued the celebration with dances.
