Newroz celebrations are being held today in 10 different centres under the slogans "Rêbertiya Azad Civaka Demokratîk (Free Leader, Democratic Society)" and "Newroz of Democratic Society for Freedom". Wan (Van) is one of the cities where the Newroz fire is lit in the centre.

 

The celebration address of Wan Newroz, where hundreds of thousands of people come together every year, has not changed this year. The celebrations are organised in the Newroz are located on the outskirts of the historical Wan Castle. Citizens travelled to the Newroz area early in the morning. Thousands of people not only from the city centre but also from the surrounding districts and rural neighbourhoods started to flow to the area. 

 

Some citizens started to flock to the area on foot, some by public transport and some by personal vehicles. While the density of women and young people attracted attention, many people participated in the celebrations in traditional dresses. 

 

ENTHUSIASM INCREASES IN THE AREA

 

With the call of the masses, entrances to the are started at 4 different points. Citizens stopped to dance to the Kurdish melodies played from the stage. Yellow, red and green coloured pennants are waving in the area where the enthusiasm and the crowd is increasing with each passing minute. "Bijî Serok Apo (Long live Leader Apo)" slogans are frequently raised from the area.

Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Keskin Bayındır, Imrali Delegation member and Wan MP Pervin Buldan, Kurdistan Communist Party (KKP) member Sinan Çiftyürek, Wan Metropolitan Municipality dissmissed Co-Mayors Neslihan Şedal and Abdullah Zeydan and many politicians will speak at the celebrations. Artists Rojda, Arhat and Fikret Goyî will also take the stage.
