AMED – Politicians underlined the significance of the rally to be held in Amed (Diyarbakır) on 4 January, demanding the physical freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, and called on the public to take part.

The Democratic Institutions Platform will hold the “Hope and Freedom Rally” on 4 January at İstasyon Square in Amed, demanding the physical freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

As calls for participation continue, Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Amed Co-Chair Abbas Şahin stated that following Abdullah Öcalan’s Call for Peace and a Democratic Society on 27 February, the most critical stage of the process is the introduction of legal regulations.

Şahin said: “The Hope and Freedom Rally is being organized to revive hope and to demonstrate the truth that Mr. Öcalan’s freedom is the freedom of society. For this reason, all our people must take to the squares. For the construction of a democratic republic, Mr. Öcalan’s freedom is our freedom.”

‘FREE NEGOTIATION CONDITIONS WILL BE DEMANDED’

DEM Party Amed MP Serhat Eren said that instead of war and conflict, the Kurdish question must be resolved on political and legal grounds. Eren said: “Abdullah Öcalan’s call offers a democratic perspective in which peoples can live together in peace and on the basis of equality.”

Pointing out that Abdullah Öcalan is still being held under isolation conditions, Eren stressed this situation is unacceptable. “The 4 January rally includes the demand for the realization of the right to hope as well as the establishment of free negotiation conditions,” he said and called on everyone to attend the rally.

‘LET’S FILL THE SQUARE FOR FREEDOM’

DEM Party provincial executive Abdullah Alkan emphasized the need to secure the “right to hope,” saying, “On 4 January, everyone must be at İstasyon Square so that the spirit of peace can move forward.”

DEM Party provincial executive Nihat Müjde also stressed that the rally is of great importance for Abdullah Öcalan’s freedom and invited everyone to İstasyon Square.

Peace Mother Necmiye Yaşar likewise highlighted the importance of the 4 January rally for the freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, stating, “Regardless of snow, rain or winter, everyone should fill İstasyon Square for the freedom of Serok (Leader).”
