MERSIN - Speaking at the "We Talk about Peace and Democratic Society" meeting, HDK Co-spokesperson Meral Danis Bestas pointed to the isolarion of Abdullah Öcalan and said, "The most important point is free working conditions."
The Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) organised an event in Mersin under the slogan "We Talk about Peace and Democratic Society". Representatives of civil society organisations and citizens attended the event held at Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Congress and Exhibition Centre. Speaking at the event where Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party MPs Perihan Koca, Ali Bozan and Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA) MP Mehmet Emin Ekmen also took part, Meral Danış Beştaş said that they are struggling to build a democratic society.
Pointing out that the question "What do Kurds want?" is often asked, Meral Danis Bestas said, "We want to be Kurds. We cannot be Kurdish. In other words, we cannot find life by defining ourselves, our identity and defending it. Kurds want to live freely in these lands, in their common homeland. They want to live with their own identity, they want to live with their language. And they attach vital importance to their culture, language and identity."
Pointing to the efforts of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan for the peaceful solution of the Kurdish question, Meral Danis Bestas said, "The Kurdish question can be solved through dialogue, by opening the channels of politics and through free expression."
Drawing attention to the ongoing isolation of Abdullah Öcalan, Meral Danis Bestas drew attention to the "Call for Peace and Democratic Society" and emphasised that the DEM Party is the interlocutor in the political field and emphasised that the requirements of the call should be fulfilled.
'SOLUTION ACTOR IS UNDER ISOLATION'
Pointing to the isolation against Abdullah Öcalan, Meral Danis Bestas added, "The political actor who can solve this process is under isolation. In this situation, the process cannot work properly. He can convey his ideas correctly in a free environment. While it is desired to solve an issue in every sense, such a narrow perspective is unacceptable. The most important point is free working conditions." Meral Danis Bestas pointed out that the interlocutor of the process is not limited to the ruling party and emphasised that the whole society should be involved in the process.
The meeting ended with a question and answer session
