ISTANBUL - Former Evrensel newspaper Managing Editor Gorkem Kinaci and newspaper owner Kursat Yilmaz were sentenced to 10 months in prison each for "slander".
The verdict came out in the case against Gorkem Kinaci, former Managing Editor of Evrensel newspaper and mewspaper owner Kursat Yilmaz were put on trial due to the news and articles on the bribery and corruption allegations that came to the agenda with the revelations of criminal enterprise leader Sedat Peker.
The final hearing of the lawsuit filed on charges of "insult" and "slander" upon the complaint of Serhat Albayrak, Deputy Chair of the Board of Directors of Turkuvaz Media Group, was held at Istanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance. Journalists and their lawyers were present at the hearing.
The court sentenced Kursat Yilmaz and Gorkem Kinaci to 1 year in prison for "slander" against Serhat Albayrak. The court reduced the sentence to 10 months each. As for the allegation of "insult", the court ruled that "there is no need for a verdict".
