ANKARA - Speaking in front of the Ministry of Family and Social Services, DEM Party Women's Assembly Spokesperson Halide Türkoğlu pointed out that a woman is murdered every 10 minutes and emphasized the implementation of current laws.

Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Women's Assembly Spokesperson Halide Türkoğlu, together with DEM Party MPs, made a statement in front of the Ministry of Family and Social Services against violence and attacks against women within the scope of November 25 International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

'WE INSIST ON A FREE AND EQUAL LIFE'

Halide Türkoğlu stated that they are in front of the ministry with the slogan "We insist on a free and equal life, we rebel against male-state violence, we stand side by side" and that the Ministry of Family and Social Services has an important role in targeting women's gains by the AKP government, and said that sexist and violence-increasing policies are being implemented.

A WOMAN IS MURDERED EVERY 10 MINUTES

Halide Türkoğlu said: "According to the latest UN report, a woman is murdered every 10 minutes in the world in 2023. Unfortunately, at least 3 women are murdered every day in this country. Regardless of the city, those who govern this country are increasing the murders with the policies they create in the massacres of women. Today, we know that women face many forms of violence, from economic violence to physical violence, from sexual violence to emotional violence, from digital violence. In the fight against this violence, we will increase our organized struggle and establish our self-defense. Because those who make these policies have played with the content of this ministry in every way for 22 years in order to leave us unorganized and defenseless and to implement their own reasonable construction of women."

Reflection of war policies is anti-democratic practices said Halide Türkoğlu and added: "These policies are also manifesting themselves as trustee policies today. The trustees appointed in Halfeti, Batman, Mardin, Hakkari, and Esenyurt are policies that have caused the suspension of local democracy. They are policies that have caused the suspension of society's hope for peace and freedom. The target of the trustees appointed for 8 years has always been women. As the first action, the trustees closed the shelters and women's centers. They also appointed male civil servants to the women's policies directorates. The ministry has never once raised its voice against the policies produced by the trustee mentality. We will expose how hypocritical these policies are."
