DİYARBAKIR – Başak Demirtaş who travels kilometers from Diyarbakır to Edirne every week to see his imprisoned husband HDP Former Co- Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, defined the journey as a part of their struggle.

Başak Demirtaş who visits former Peoples' Democratic Party Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş every week in Edirne 3 thousand 200 kilometers away, spoke to Mesopotamia Agency (MA), and said the journey is a part of their struggle.

Başak Demirtaş said: "I visit Selahattin every week. It gives me morale when I see him. I think of the journey as an aspect of our struggle. Because Selahattin was put in a prison thousands of kilometers away from us. I also think that visiting him every week proves their plan wrong."

Demirtaş, stating that struggle is to be able to live in a world where people are not being marginalized because of their language, or religion or gender, said: "My struggle is to ensure a country in peace where people are not being subjected to unlawfulnesses."

Speaking about the re-arrest of her husband Selahattin Demirtaş, Başak Demirtaş said: "“This was not an ordinary situation regarding an ongoing trial. Same thing happened to Businesman Osman Kavala. He was arrested the day he was acquitted. So we should not think that the judiciary works flawlessly in Turkey. Judiciary is not fair or lawful."

Demirtaş calling on for March 8, said: "Unfortunately women living in Turkey or anywhere in the world are not equal with men. Women are being murdered on a daily basis. Women are being subjected to violence. Children are being married to older man. Therefore, we have to expand our struggle to achieve gender equality."
