DÎLOK - Speaking at the Dîlok Newroz, DBP Co-chair Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar reacted to Mansur Yavaş's remarks and said, "He is speaking against the struggle for freedom. We will not let the values of the Kurdish people be spoken against."
Dîlok (Antep) Newroz was celebrated in İstasyon Square with the slogan "Rêbertiya Azad Civaka Demokratîk" and "Democratic Society Newroz for Freedom". The area where the celebration was held decorated with red, yellow and green colours. Citizens entered the area with their traditional clothes and danced. So citizens were not allowed to enter the area of the grounds of the colours of their local clothes. After the reactions citizens entered the area. In the celebration that started with a minute of silence, Newroz Organising Committee, DEM Party and DBP provincial co-chairs greeted the people.
DBP Co-chair Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar emphasised the historical importance of Dîlok for the Kurdish freedom struggle. She stated that they demand freedom for all prisoners, especially Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan. Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar stresseed that they have been struggling against the trustee policy of the government for years and reacted to Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mansur Yavaş's calling the flags at Newroz in Kurdistan "rags".
"We fought against the trustees for years, but what happened? The government carried out operations and arrests with the politicised judiciary. We are against any kind of usurpation against the will of the people. Against all this, the Mayor of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality took a microphone and called the values of the Kurdish people 'rags'. He is speaking against the struggle for freedom. We will not let the values of the Kurdish people be spoken against," she added.
Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar said, "Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's call is for all segments of society. The call is also to Ankara. The state says we will not step back. The solution of the Kurdish issue will be the solution of the fundamental problem of this state. For a democratic country and future, we will embrace democratic politics and build a democratic society together. Everyone has rolled up their sleeves. It is high time to make the youth and women the vanguard of the call, when the way forward for society is so open."
During the speeches, slogans such as "Bijî Serok Apo (Long live Leader Apo)" and "Jin, jiyan, azadî (Woman, life, freedom)" were frequently chanted. After the speeches, Koma Agire Zerdeşt and singer Cevdet Bağca took the stage. The celebration ended with dances and slogans.
