ISTANBUL - Imprisoned journalist Ahmet Güneş was released after the indictment prepared against him was accepted.
Journalists Necla Demir, Rahime Karvar, Ahmet Güneş, Welat Ekin, Vedat Örüç and Reyhan Hacıoğlu, who were detained in house raids on 17 January through an Istanbul-based investigation, were arrested on charges of "illegal organization membership". Eylem Babayiğit, who was detained through the same investigation, was arrested on 24 January.
An indictment was prepared against journalist Ahmet Güneş, who is currently under arrest in Marmara Prison. Güneş was released after the preparation of the summary of judgement.
In the indictment, news and discussion programmes were cited as "crimes". Evaluations on the isolation of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan were also among the charges against Güneş.
The indictment was accepted by the Istanbul Courthouse 25th High Criminal Court. The first hearing will be held on 8 May.
