Marmara Association for Assistance and Solidarity with the Families of Prisoners and Convicts (MATUHAYDER) launched a campaign with the slogan "Sending money to prisoners is not a crime" to draw attention to the situation of those arrested for sending money to prisoners in prisons and to solidarity with prisoners. Citizens and families who came together under the leadership of MATUHAYDER made a short statement in front of the bank.

 

CAMPAIGN WILL CONTINUE 

 

MATUHAYDER Co-Chair Dilek Sönmez Demir emphasised that money invested in prisoners is not a crime and said: "We all know that families are arrested by the state saying that sending money to prisoners is crime. We have started a campaing to show that send money to prisoners is not a crime. This campaign will continue, we will send money to all prisoners."

 

'SOLIDARITY WITH PRISONERS IS A DUTY'

 

Then Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Central Executive Board Member Musa Piroğlu took the floor. Pointing out that the government tries to legitimise its tyranny by isolating the society, "Resisting people, resisting groups, workers and women are left alone. We see the climax of this isolation policy in prisons. Prisoners are wanted to be condemned to isolation. Not only is isolation imposed in prisons, but everyone who wants to show solidarity with them is threatened and they are tried to be isolated. The government says that 'If you stand up for your rights, you will be alone against me, anyone who stands with you will be punished.' Parents who send money to their children in prisons are arrested. Sending money to prisoners and solidarity with prisoners is not a crime but a duty."

 

After the speeches, the participants entered the bank and sent money to the prisoners.
