ISTANBUL - HDP Deputy Züleyha Gülüm said that the "5th Judicial Package" on the agenda will make it difficult for women who have been subjected to violence to divorce, and women will be sentenced to forced marriage and children to rape.

While the reactions to the withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention with the decision of AKP President Tayyip Erdoğan continue, women and children are left defenceless with the 5th judicial package. The "4th Judicial Package", which was brought to the Parliament 7 days after the withdrawal from the contract, was accepted with the votes of AKP and MHP MPs. With the package, "concrete evidence" will be required for crimes such as sexual abuse, deliberate killing and torture.

requirement was introduced for catalog accusations such as sexual abuse, willful killing and torture.

While the discussions on this package continue, Erdoğan announced that the preparations for the "5th Judicial Package" had begun. With the package expected to be brought to the Parliament, "Peace Commissions" will be established and women will be in greater danger.

Züleyha Gülüm, one of the lawyer MPs of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), made evaluations about the package.

THE RESULTS OF FIRST FOUR PACKAGES

Gülüm pointed out that the judicial packages previously accepted in the Parliament under the name of "judicial reform" led to a judicial process that turned against the society, and asked, "How did the first 4 packages helped us?" Gülüm said that with the 4 judicial packages, the problems in many areas, especially in prisons, have been deepened. Gülüm said, “A regulation has been introduced that usurps the rights of the prisoners and paves the way for arbitrary punishments. Even sick prisoners who are close to death are not released. Prison administrations have been given too much power."

VIOLENCE AND MURDERS WILL SKY ROCKET

Noting that the government put the packages on the agenda of the society by 'sugarcoating' them before presenting them to the Parliament, Gülüm emphasized that there are problematic issues for women and children in the final judicial package planned to be introduced. Gülüm said, "In general, women look after children after divorce. Every now and then the father is given the right to see the child. This is provided by the police, child psychologists and enforcement officers. They say they will no longer deliver children through execution office. This is a very critical issue. Because the safety of women's lives is at risk. Women are subjected to violence despite the presence of the police. With the removal of this practice, women will be in even greater danger. Women will be exposed to violence while they are delivering their children to their father. It will bring murder. As we all see, most of the women are murdered after divorce. If you remove the execution office from the picture, women will be exposed to violence."

THE AIM OF THE PEACE COMMISSION

Reminding that the pro-government newspaper Yeni Şafak covered the news with the headline “The child support victims are waiting for the 5th Judicial Package” while the package discussions were going on, Gülüm said, "With this package, alimony will be cut or it will be limited for a certain amount of time. This is clearly done for the men, by a handful of men. In other words, an attitude is displayed in favor of men."

Mentioning the peace commission, Gülüm said: "This is a matter of mediation and reconciliation. It will be applied to women. Before starting a legal action, women will be faced to make peace with the perpetrator of the violence they were subjected to. This process may stop them from taking legal action.

WOMEN'S STRUGGLE

Expressing that the government is making these arrangements for the continuity of its own regime, Gülüm said, “We are in a process where fascism is institutionalized. The transfer of so much money to the Religious Affairs is actually an indicator of what the regime will look like from now on. In this regime, women are not allowed any free space. One of the first target groups of authoritarian regimes is women."

Underlining that women are strong enough to stand against this, Gülüm said: "Women have always been in the front and in a leading position. They never left the streets or the parliament. This is why they can not realize all of their plans and this is why they had to give up those plan. Now they are trying to end the women's movement once and for all. They will not be able to do that.

Gülüm stated that they will cstand up against the judicial package if it is brought to the Parliament, and continued as follows: "We will unite our objections and take a firm stance against the package. They wanted to bring an amnesty to the men on trial for child rape. We reacted and they had to withdraw it. All women are must unite against this package and take a firm stand."
