NEWS CENTER - A respiratory illness outbreak has reportedly affected a large number of prisoners and detainees at Evin Prison.

Evin Prison, one of the detention facilities in Iran with the most widely reported human rights violations, is experiencing an outbreak of respiratory illness, according to a report by the Iran Human Rights Center (IHRS). The report said the illness had spread through several sections of Ward 7 amid extreme heat and a lack of fans and cooling equipment, which prison authorities have refused to allow into the ward. A large number of prisoners and detainees have reportedly complained of severe sore throats, weakness, fatigue and other similar symptoms.

The report said it was not known whether prison authorities had conducted any diagnostic tests.
