MÊRDÎN – Dijwar Aydoğan, a YPG member who was killed during the 2019 attacks by Turkey and the paramilitary forces it backs on the city of Efrîn (Afrin) in North and East Syria, and whose body was never returned to his family, has been issued an 80,000 TL general health insurance premium debt.

 

Dijwar Aydoğan (Rênas), a YPG member who lost his life during the 2019 attacks by Turkey and the paramilitary forces it backs on the city of Efrîn in North and East Syria, has been issued an 80,000 TL general health insurance premium debt. The said debt was communicated via official notification to Aydoğan's family, who live in the rural Barman neighbourhood of the Stewrê (Savur) district of Mêrdîn (Mardin). The notification sent by the Artuklu Social Security Centre Directorate claimed that Aydoğan, who lost his life 7 years ago, has a general health insurance premium debt of 80,333 TL as of 20 May 2026.

 

Emine Aydoğan, Dijwar Aydoğan's mother, who has been searching for her son's body for 7 years without success and who received the notification, stated that it is unacceptable for her son to be penalized with a premium debt despite having lost his life. Emine Aydoğan noted that despite her son having lost his life 7 years ago, no official death registration has been made, and that this has given rise to a series of grievances.

 

THE FAMILY HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN THREATENED

 

The Aydoğan family was subjected to pressure and harassment in 2023 by individuals who identified themselves as intelligence officers. Family members had been detained on multiple occasions over a period of more than a year on the grounds that they refused to comply with the demands of those claiming to be intelligence agents. While the family filed a criminal complaint in response to the ongoing threats, they were also subjected to pressure demanding that they "sit in front of the HDP."
