ANKARA – Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party will organize the Democratic Local Governments Conference under the slogan “From Democratic Local Governments to Communal Society”.

The Democratic Local Governments Board of the DEM PArty has initiated the conference. As the first step of the Democratic Local Governments Conference to be held in Amed (Diyarbakır) on June 8-9, provincial conferences will be held between April 19-28 under the slogan “The Commune is the Municipality, the Municipality is the Commune”.

In this multi-stage process initiated by the party, both the organizational situation will be evaluated, and the new period struggle line will be discussed through workshops and provincial conferences to be held locally. It is stated that the conference preparations are not merely a technical process but also aim to reconsider the understanding of local democracy from the perspective of communal society.

During the preparation process, the framework text to be created through the joint work of the Conference Preparation Committee and the Democratic Local Governments Board will be read and opened for discussion at the provincial conferences.

In these discussions, based on past period experiences, addressing the deficiencies experienced, subjecting the mistakes made to critical evaluation, and the more effective use of democratic political channels will be among the main topics.

The results, shaped by compiling the opinions, suggestions, and criticisms emerging from the provincial conferences, will form the main agenda of the big conference to be held in June.

With the conference to be held in Amed on June 8-9, the aim is to determine concrete policy lines for the restructuring of local governments with a populist, participatory, and communal perspective and to set out the roadmap for the new period.
