More than 200 detention in Istanbul 2025-05-01 12:18:45 ISTANBUL - More than 200 people, including ESP Cp-chair Murat Çepni, were detained in Istanbul.    With the call of May Day Organising Committee, many trade unions and institutions wanted to enter Taksim for 1 May Worker's Day. The police prevented Taksim and attacked the masses.    Contemporary Lawyers Association (ÇHD) Istanbul Branc announced that more than 200 people were detained. Among those detained are Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Co-chair Murat Çepni, lawyers Rojhat Tunç, Saruhan Efe Kadaifçi, Lütfi Sabri Batı, Arkın Hürtaş and Yunus Emre Işık.   İnşaat-İş members who came to Mecidiyeköy to march to Taksim were also among those detained.   Young people who wanted to march to Taksim protested the police intervention with the slogan "Detentions, arrests and oppression cannot deter us". The youth chanting "May Day Square Taksim Square" were handcuffed behind their backs and detained.   Members of the ESP and SOLDEP were detained on their way to Şişli Square.
