Imamoglu's detention linked to KCK, second statement from Prosecutor's Office 2025-03-19 10:17:27 ISTANBUL- Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office attributed the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu to a "criminal organisation" and made a second statement, attributing the detention first to the Urban Consensus and then to the KCK. Ekrem İmamoğlu, Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, was detained in the morning hours. Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office made a second statement regarding the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, IBB Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat, Şişli Mayor Resul Ekrem Şahan and Reform Institute President Mehmet Ali Çalışkan. In its first statement, the prosecutor's office explained the detention decision as a "criminal organization for interest", but in its second statement, the prosecutor's office attributed the detention to the "Urban Consensus" in the elections.     The Prosecutor's Office attributed the "Urban Consensus" linking the Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) to the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) and the DTK to the KCK, its argued that İmamoğlu had "aided the terrorist organization" by participating in the "Urban Consensus" activities. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office cited the investigation launched by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the HDK and the "Urban Consensus" with the allegation of "terror organization membership" as a "fixed, proven crime" and justified the detention on the basis of this investigation.   While there is no court decision on the accusation of "terror organization membership" in the "HDK" and "Urban Consensus" investigations, the prosecutor's office based its detention decision for "aiding an unproven crime" on the news about the "Urban Consensus" that it claimed to have appeared in the press.
